On BK's customer service

It was around seven in the evening, the time when the number of customers reaches its peak as it is dinner time, when I came to Burger King. It surprised me that there were many chairs and tables available in the store but I still had a hard time looking for one that was vacant. That was also the time when I met a guy who was fuming about the inconsiderate freeloaders who selfishly stayed in the store for the internet connection, to the inconvenience of paying customers. Last night, I sat with a stranger as I ate at Burger King, not because I wanted to know this guy but because I have nowhere else to eat. From his rants, to which I agree with, I believe that  Burger King should draft policies about its free in-store Wifi connection because freeloaders stay in the store indefinitely, actual buying customers experience inconvenience and the store might experience financial problems soon.

At this age where almost everyone is part of cyberspace, who wouldn’t love free internet connection? The problem, however, is that Burger King is a restaurant, not an internet cafĂ©, but because of the free Wifi, people lounge in the store with their laptops or whatever gadgets. The worst part is that they don’t even buy food from the store. I believe the Burger King management should impose a limit, time or bandwidth, to the users of the internet connection. The freeloaders should remember that Burger King is a fast food establishment and not an internet shop. If they want to access internet for an unlimited amount of time and bandwidth, I think they should try investing on a broadband internet connection in their homes.

Normally, chairs and tables in fast food stores get vacated as fast as the store gets new customers. It is an equilibrium that everyone can rely on. However, if freeloaders stay on these chairs and tables designated for the clients, there would be an imbalance in the equilibrium and inconvenience is inevitable.  From this fact, I believe that Burger King should give priority to their eating clients and make sure they have a place to sit and eat. If there are internet users who do not have food on their table, they should be asked to move so that the customers can eat in peace. If Burger King would like to keep the Wifi users happy, fine. The management may allow an area for users but they should keep in mind that the customers always come first.

With all the freebies in Burger king – water refill, Wifi internet connection, charging stations – it is expected that the company will meet some financial problems sooner or later. These freebies are the things that the store clients should enjoy using, but are abused by freeloaders, thus, the inevitable financial problem. A preventive measure for this is that Burger King should only allow paying customers to use them. This way, they can still yield income and keep customers happy. I am certain that there is a certain amount from what customers pay that instead of going to the company’s profits go to paying for the Wifi and all the freebies.

I hope Burger King will work on its policies about their free Wifi internet connection for the efficiency of its service and the satisfaction of the customers. Maybe the company can limit the usage, assign an area for users or ultimately remove the Wifi connection, whatever makes more customers happy. I do believe that every company’s goal is to make every client happy, next to keeping the sales up. But how could you keep it high if you let your customers into an abysmal experience? I did not get the stranger's name, but I felt the need to share what he thought about what happened to us and how it can be fixed. After all, he said, the customer is always right.
